Overview
Spot Your Niche is a research tool for exploring public YouTube channels, videos, and topic clusters. We use YouTube API Services to retrieve public data. We do not request access to your YouTube channel, private YouTube analytics, or permission to publish or edit anything on your behalf. Signing in with Google is for account authentication, not YouTube account authorization.
Your use of YouTube is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Information we handle
- Account information: email address, display name, provider identity, account ID, sign-in and app-visit timestamps, and visit count. Supabase Auth handles passwords, email links, and authentication sessions; Spot Your Niche does not store your plaintext password.
- Research activity: the searches you make are processed to return results and may populate a shared public-data cache. If you choose to save an exploration, its niche or channel and public channel/video results are linked to your account. We also record when a feature announcement was shown, dismissed, or used.
- Feedback: the category and message you submit, plus the current niche, view, or selected item when available. Feedback is connected to your app account in our database.
- Public YouTube data: channel and video identifiers, titles, thumbnails, descriptions, topics, view counts, subscriber counts, publication dates, and other public metadata used to build the catalog and search results. This data may concern a channel you search, but we do not obtain it through your YouTube login.
- Technical and analytics data: Google Analytics may collect page and feature interactions, approximate location, browser/device details, and a cookie-based client identifier. Hosting and API providers may process request metadata such as IP address and error logs.
How we use it
We use account information to sign you in and keep your saved research separate from other users. We use searches and public YouTube data to return results, cache frequently requested information, and calculate comparisons and illustrative estimates. We use feedback to respond to problems and improve the product. We use usage and analytics information to understand reliability and which features are useful. We do not sell your personal information or use your account to change your YouTube content.
Service providers and sharing
Cloudflare serves the website; AWS hosts the API and background jobs; Supabase provides authentication and the database; Google provides Google sign-in, YouTube public data, and Google Analytics; and Resend sends authentication email through Supabase. Submitted feedback text, category, and screen context are also sent to ntfy.sh to notify the product operator, without your account email in the alert. These providers process data to deliver their respective services. Public channel and video information in search results may be visible to other signed-in users; your saved explorations and account record are not shared with them.
Cookies and local storage
Supabase stores the browser session so you can remain signed in. We store your
light/dark theme choice locally. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies, including
_ga, to distinguish visits. You can clear site storage or use browser
controls to limit cookies, though clearing the session will sign you out. Google's
Analytics opt-out add-on
is another option where supported.
Retention
Cached public search data is scheduled for deletion after 30 days. Saved analysis result bodies are cleared after 30 days; their job records can remain. Daily catalog metric snapshots older than 90 days are removed after a newer import. Account, feature-use, and feedback records do not currently have an automatic expiry and remain until deleted through an account request or operational cleanup. Our service providers may have separate retention periods.
Your choices
You can sign out at any time. You can ask to access, correct, or delete information associated with your account through the Send feedback control in the signed-in workspace. Choose "Other" and describe your request. We may need to verify the request before acting. Deleting data from Spot Your Niche does not delete public channel or video data held by YouTube; manage that through YouTube directly.
Policy changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and its date.
